Apologies for my absence this quarter! More than busyness, I’ve been wading through the project on the technical side of the process. Also, in the last two months, I presented at the UW Undergrad Research Symposium, and changed the presentation of the piece to a 3 channel video installation/sculpture.
Experiment 4 - projection surfaces
by Anna Czoski on Apr.09, 2009, under 4 of five, Experiments
Unevenness. Impermanence. Those are the qualities I hoped would be reenforced in the film by projecting it onto water. I gathered different stone surfaces and found that projecting onto the dark surfaces brought out more contrast. The two remaining surfaces were: a twenty pound granite slab with rounded corners and the second was a slate shingle. Below are the videos of that experiment.
In the end, I decided the water fall aesthetic was too reminiscent of a decorative fixture. The rate of the water acted as a metronome, keeping too strong one sense of time.
